SAFETY IV CATHETER WITH RETRACTABLE NEEDLE
The Safety IV Catheter is a single-use peripheral intravenous access device engineered to minimize the risk of needlestick injuries while providing reliable venous access for fluid administration, medication delivery, and blood sampling. This advanced catheter incorporates an integrated safety mechanism that automatically or manually retracts the contaminated introducer needle into a protective housing immediately after venipuncture.
Safety Technology: The device features either a push-button or slide-style needle retraction mechanism that fully encapsulates the needle within the catheter body after use. An audible click confirms proper activation, ensuring complete protection against accidental exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The safety mechanism is designed for intuitive one-handed operation, allowing healthcare professionals to maintain control throughout the insertion procedure.
Clinical Design Features: The triple-facet, back-cut beveled needle provides smooth tissue penetration with minimal trauma at the insertion site. A notched needle design in select gauges enables rapid flash visualization, providing immediate confirmation of successful venipuncture. The transparent flashback chamber allows clear observation of blood return along the needle shaft.
The catheter hub features ergonomic contoured finger grips and a ridged surface for superior control during insertion and connection of administration sets. A push-off tab facilitates one-handed catheter advancement after venipuncture. Wings or stabilization features may be included for secure fixation to the patient's skin.
Material Construction: Available in medical-grade polyurethane (PUR) or FEP materials. PUR catheters are thermosensitive, softening within the body for enhanced patient comfort and reduced vessel trauma during indwelling periods. The catheter material is kink-resistant, radiopaque for radiological visibility, and compatible with high-pressure injection systems up to 300 psi.
Color-Coded System: Follows ISO-compliant color coding on both the catheter hub and packaging for instant gauge identification (blue typically indicates 22G). Common sizes range from 14G to 24G with lengths from 0.75 inches to 2 inches.
Clinical Applications: Suitable for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients requiring intravenous therapy, including fluid resuscitation, medication infusion, blood product administration, and diagnostic blood collection.
Manufactured latex-free and DEHP-free. Compliant with EN ISO 10555-5 and ISO 23908 standards for sharps injury protection.
