3M™ Curos™ Disinfecting Cap for Needleless Connectors

3M™ Curos™ Disinfecting Cap for Needleless Connectors (now manufactured by Solventum) is an innovative infection prevention device containing 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) that disinfects IV access points in just one minute. These bright green caps twist onto needleless connectors, providing passive disinfection that eliminates human technique variance and acts as a physical barrier to contamination for up to seven days if not removed. Consistent use is associated with decreased central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in healthcare and humanitarian settings. Used to protect IV lines between accesses, reduce infection risk, and improve compliance with disinfection protocols.

Key Features:

  • Passive disinfection eliminates manual "scrub the hub" protocol variance
  • Bright green color provides visual compliance verification
  • Twists on easily and locks securely in place
  • Single-use device ensures sterility
  • Can be dispensed as individual caps or convenient strips that hang from IV poles
  • Meets 2024 INS Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice for add-on devices

Safety Notes: Proven effective in vitro against six microorganisms commonly associated with CLABSI: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida glabrata, and Candida albicans. Clinical studies show facilities using Curos caps experienced 73% fewer CLABSI incidents and 0.5-day reduction in hospital stays. Compatible with most commonly used needleless connectors. Alcohol-based; allow to dry before line access.

Clinical Evidence: One hospital reported over 40% reduction in CLABSI rates after implementing Curos caps. Recent research shows passive disinfection with 70% IPA caps reduces phlebitis and infection. Recommended by INS, SHEA, and referenced by CDC guidelines.

Variations Available: Also available: Curos Jet (high-profile design for easier handling with gloves, fits Smartsite® connectors), Curos Tips (for male luers), Curos Stopper (for open female luers), Curos for Tego® Hemodialysis Connectors.
