ICU Medical MicroClave™ Clear Neutral Connector (MC100)
ICU Medical MicroClave™ Clear Neutral Connector (MC100) is a needleless IV access device featuring clear housing and neutral displacement technology with Clave® split-septum design. The transparent housing allows healthcare providers to visually confirm complete flushing after blood draws or medication administration, helping reduce hospital-acquired bloodstream infections (HA-BSI). The straight fluid path and minimal dead space enable efficient clearing with low flush volumes. Used on peripheral, arterial, and central venous catheters for IV fluid and medication administration in humanitarian medical settings. Does not require clamping sequences, reducing training burden and clinical errors.
Key Features:
- Clear housing provides visual confirmation of connector flushing
- Neutral displacement design minimizes blood reflux into catheter tip
- Split-septum design (CDC-preferred feature) creates swabbable microbial barrier
- Straight fluid path allows efficient blood clearing with 2.5 mL saline flush
- Minimal dead space (0.04 mL residual volume) reduces flush volume requirements
- Saline flush option eliminates heparin use and HIT risk
- No clamping sequence required
- Approved for power injector use
Specifications:
- Dead space: 0.04 mL
- Flow rate: 165 mL/min
- Backpressure: +45 PSIG
- Connection: Standard luer lock
- Housing: Clear polycarbonate
- Septum: Silicone split-septum
- Latex-free, DEHP-free
- Compatible with standard luer connections
- Packaging: 100 units per case
- Single-use, sterile device
Contraindications: Single-use only. Do not reuse. Discard after removal from IV line. Not compatible with some prefilled glass syringes or male luers outside 0.062"-0.110" internal diameter range. Confirm syringe/luer compatibility before use to avoid damage and medication delays.
Prescription Required: No (varies by region)
Safety Notes: Proven effective microbial barrier against bacterial transfer and contamination. When not accessed, silicone seal forms swabbable barrier to bacterial ingress. Suitable for blood draws and IV medication administration including blood products. Does not require clinical practice changes. CDC guidelines note split-septum as preferred connector design feature. Clinically proven to help reduce catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs).
Clinical Evidence: Studies show maintained low rates of CRBSIs when using MicroClave connectors. Effective at clearing blood and medications with minimal flush volumes, helping maintain catheter patency and reduce occlusion risk.
Variations Available: Also available: MicroClave Blue (with blue tint for enhanced line identification), MicroClave Neutral (various configurations), Extension sets with integrated MicroClave connectors.
