IODOFLEX Cadexomer Iodine Gel Pad Dressing (6cm x 8cm, 10g)

A sterile, conformable antimicrobial dressing pad containing 0.9% cadexomer iodine in a unique gel matrix. When applied to wounds, IODOFLEX absorbs fluids, removing exudate, pus and debris while forming a gel over the wound surface. As it absorbs, iodine is released, killing bacteria and changing color. The cadexomer matrix can absorb up to 7 times its own weight of wound exudate, providing sustained antimicrobial activity for up to 72 hours while promoting autolytic debridement.

Common humanitarian uses:

  • Venous stasis ulcers and chronic leg ulcers in populations with limited mobility
  • Diabetic foot ulcers in areas with poor access to specialized diabetes care
  • Pressure ulcers (bedsores) in bedridden patients or long-term care settings
  • Infected traumatic wounds from conflict, accidents, or disasters
  • Surgical wound infections when prophylactic antibiotics are unavailable
  • Post-debridement wound management in field hospitals
  • Chronic wounds with biofilm barriers preventing healing

Key information:

  • Size: 6cm x 8cm pad containing 10g cadexomer iodine
  • Iodine concentration: 0.9% (sustained release formulation)
  • Absorption capacity: Up to 6-7 times its weight in exudate
  • Antimicrobial duration: Up to 72 hours of broad-spectrum activity
  • Color change indicator: Changes from brown/orange to white/pale when saturated (replacement needed)
  • Package contents: 3 sterile gel pads per box
  • Dressing change frequency: Every 2-3 days or when color indicates saturation
  • Storage requirements: Room temperature in original packaging
  • Shelf life: Several years when properly stored (check expiration date)
  • Requires prescription: Yes in most jurisdictions

Important safety notes:

  • Contraindications: Do not use on children under 12, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with thyroid disorders, renal impairment, or known iodine hypersensitivity
  • Non-adherent application: Can be removed with saline irrigation to reduce trauma; does not stick to wound bed
  • Monitor color change: White/pale color indicates iodine depletion and need for dressing change; do not leave saturated dressing in place
  • Iodine absorption: Prolonged use on large wounds may lead to systemic iodine absorption; monitor thyroid function in extended therapy
  • Wound assessment: Not suitable for dry wounds; requires exuding wounds for gel formation and proper function
  • Secondary dressing required: Must be covered with appropriate secondary dressing (foam, gauze, or film) to maintain moist environment

IODOFLEX Triple Action Mechanism: IODOFLEX provides three critical functions simultaneously: (1) Broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria (including MRSA), fungi, and protozoa through sustained iodine release; (2) High fluid absorption capacity that manages exudate and helps establish moisture balance; (3) Physical disruption of mature biofilm by absorbing it into the dressing matrix while reducing bacterial load. The cadexomer beads swell as they absorb, providing effective desloughing and assisting autolytic debridement to promote wound bed preparation.

Alternative names: Cadexomer iodine dressing, iodine gel pad, antimicrobial wound dressing, IODOSORB dressing (powder form), iodophor dressing, pansement à l'iode cadexomère (French), apósito de yodo cadexómero (Spanish), biofilm disrupting dressing
